Evaluación de la vulnerabilidad de locales escolares y establecimiento de salud de Lima Metropolitana y Callao, Perú

El Centro de Estudios y Prevención de Desastres (PREDES) con apoyo de la Agencia Suiza para el Desarrollo y la Cooperación (COSUDE), llevó a cabo la evaluación de vulnerabilidad de escuelas y establecimientos de salud en Lima. El objetivo es realizar un diagnostico de la vulnerabilidad sísmica de una muestra representativa de locales escolares y establecimientos de salud de Lima Metropolitana y Callao a través de una inspección de las condiciones físicas de los elementos estructurales y no estructurales de las edificaciones, en base al llenado de una ficha de evaluación rápida y finalmente traducido a un ranking de vulnerabilidad sísmica.

School safety baseline study

The present study is in response to commitments made during the second session of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in June 2009. The purpose of those commitments was to assess the level of disaster resilience in all schools in disaster-prone countries by 2011 and have all related government‘s agencies develop a national plan for school safety by 2015. This study consists of a desk analysis of ten initially selected countries using available information provided by key informants from institutions working in those selected countries in disaster reduction project in the education sector. It is based on the information at the national level. Sometimes the information provided could be an example of specific activities executed at the local or school level, however.

Towards a culture of prevention, disaster risk reduction begins at School 2007

The present Good Practices provide an indication of the major successes achieved so far and, therefore, an idea of what could be achieved in the future. Indeed, they have been selected primarily for their potential for replication. But attention was also paid to geographical balance. The following good practices are arranged under the issues of: 1) raising awareness within school communities; 2) building a culture of prevention; and 3) making school building safer. They all involve school children, teachers and non-academic staff and, in some cases, even surrounding communities.
